Ouch. Paul just laid it out plain and simple. The only way for a person to be right with God is to be perfect. So watch out how you talk about other people who aren't. We're all in the same boat. And the boat's going down! If you've never read Romans before, it's kind of shocking. I can imagine what the first readers must have been thinking. But Paul is setting us up for something. He's laying down the basis for his entire argument. He'll spend the next few chapters on this and then bring it all home later. Hang in there. It's going to get worse before it gets better.
