50,000 Every Day

Two weeks ago, I saw a new statistic. I read stats all the time about society, the church, politics, etc. Usually I forget the stats within a few minutes of reading them. Not this one. I've literally been carrying this one around in my head for the whole two weeks. I haven't had a single day in the last 14 when this stat hasn't come into my mind. I also haven't had a day when it didn't bother me and cause me great sorrow. I had to share it on the blog. See if it doesn't have the same affect on you. Here it is...

Every day 50,000 people die outside of a relationship with Jesus.

You might want to read that again. Every single day 50,000 people step into an eternity without Christ. From the moment I read the stat until today the number is 700,000. Tomorrow it will be a quarter of a million. Pretty overwhelming when you really think about it.

But here's what I've been trying to focus on. Last fall, along with many of you at CCC, I wrote down the names of 4 people that I knew who didn't know Jesus yet. I committed to extending love, grace and invitations to those folks. Try not to let the stat discourage you. Who are your 4? Are you praying for God to open up a door and give you a chance to share grace with them? Because one day, they'll become one of the 50,000.
