Just because it's in the Bible doesn't mean it's the right thing. These 3 chapters are good examples of that. Jesus says love your enemies but David here is wishing for their destruction. Another reason why I love the Bible. It's real. Who hasn't felt the way David does? Who hasn't wished that evil people would get what's coming to them and the innocent and helpless would be treated right? But I don't think God considers us guilty for feeling this way. It's the outward expression that He's most concerned about. David's psalms have a good balance. He questions God. He blows off steam. He expresses honestly how injustice makes him feel and what he would like to do to correct it. But in the end, David leaves that part to God. He always comes back to the eventual justice of God. One day evil, unjust people will get what's coming to them. And God's going to bring it about. Much better than I could or anybody else. But He's also going to deal with the injustice and evil in me. All the more reason to be thankful for the cross. Because of Jesus, I get to skip that part.
