This chapter really establishes the authority and power Jesus has over Satan. In v. 11 just the sight of Him causes demons to fear. In v. 12 Jesus is telling them what they can and can't say. Even Jesus' enemies admit the kind of power He has (v. 22). I talk to a lot of Christians who describe the power and influence of the enemy or of sin and temptation to be so strong. Jesus didn't think so. I think we play the role of underdog way too much. If God is for us, who can be against us? I know this coming year holds some tough and unique challenges for me as a Christ follower and as pastor. But the "hard" that Satan plans to put in the way should never give me reason to fear or lose confidence. Jesus wouldn't. And I don't think He wants me to either. I'm praying my confidence will be the kind that Jesus would have if He were living my life.
