Day 6

Mark 5

Reading the story of the demon possessed man again, I saw something I had forgotten. After he was healed, he begs Jesus to go with Him. Here's a guy who's so impacted, thankful and excited about Jesus that he's begging just to hang around Him. He's ready to go anywhere. He's willing to do anything for Him. And Jesus says no. I don't want you to go with me. I want you to spread the news of what God has done for you. Immediately, the guy goes on a mission. Now, this is just me thinking out loud. There's no Bible or anything to prove it. But I wonder if he ever looked back at the end of his life and thought about how things would have been different had Jesus allowed him to take off and go with Him. I bet he sat around and told the story to his kids and grandkids. But I also bet he never regretted it. Because if he'd stayed with Jesus, he might have never gone back home. But by going back and telling everybody about what Jesus did for him, he started a spiritual heritage that would have never existed. People who might have never heard about Jesus did hear about him. As awesome as it would have been to get to go with Jesus, there was actually something more important that God had in mind for this guy to do. It might have been the reason Jesus healed him. There was so much more at stake. And I also wonder if that ever happens for me. When there's something that I'm dying for Jesus to do in my life but He's got something else that's way more important, I hope I could be like this guy and put obedience above my own desires and expectations.
