$600,000 tithe? No thanks!
I saw this story and was curious what you guys think. A man in Florida won $6 million dollars in the lottery. When he dropped $600,000 into the offering the next Sunday, the pastor of his church politely declined to take the money. You can read the story and watch the newscast here. So, what do you think? Is the pastor doing the right thing? Is the guy who won the money in the wrong? And now that he's got $6 million and his church won't take a tithe, what does he do now? I have my opinion but I'll wait to hear your comments. Those of you who know me probably already know where I come down on this.

I'm guessing it was declined due to gambling is evil? And all other tithers are not guilty of sin, right?? He will tithe it somehow or another anyway, why not let it help your immediate church family neighbors??
Ok I have an idea. Let's return all money anyone who has sinned this week.
mmmmm well on second thought let's not and use whatever money God brings to us to keep reaching out to people who have never heard the word tithe.
In the end I think I would take the money. However, it would be hard to take the money and then report it to the entire congregation. What happens when one week the bulletin list the yearly offering need as $500,000 and then the next week it’s listed at a $100,000 surplus. If someone saw that they might think “Gee, this church doesn’t need my money.” Ultimately the purpose of giving has nothing to do with money. I’m certain God doesn’t need our money to get His work done. It’s all about surrendering your heart and possessions to God. It’s all his anyway. Soooooo, with that being said, I think He’d be ok with getting 10% of his $6 million back. The lucky church to “hit the jackpot” just better do two things: Make sure their people understand the true heart of giving and spend the money FAST! One suggestion might be to give their youth minister a huge bonus. But that’s just a crazy, out of the box, whacky, no premeditated thought kind of idea.
Excellent suggestion, Kelley. As long as the teaching pastor gets a piece of that raise, too!!!
I think all of our pastors and staff deserve a huge bonus !
I don't know who this "anonymous" person is but I like him/her!
Well, honestly, I would be sure to sit next to that guy on the Sunday he is turning it in, then as he puts it in and passes it to me, I would take it out and pass it on. but thats just me.
Now, on a more serious not, I would have to agree with Kelley. No one should say "oh this church has to much money, they don't need mine" It's (like Kelley said) not about how much you are giving, but about giving back to god.
