One of my favorite explanations in the Bible about suffering. There are things that suffering produces within us that nothing else can. Everybody wants to have endurance. But nobody wants to suffer to get it. Everybody wants to be patient. But nobody wants to wait. Some things can only be developed by literally suffering for it. That's how James can say that we should rejoice in the midst of suffering. Not because we're suffering. But if we see it as a growth opportunity we can focus on the end result rather than what's going on in the present.
