All three of these psalms have the same theme. They're the honest feelings of a guy who's going through seriously tough times. But chapter 3 spoke loudest to me today. Probably because of the circumstances David was in when he wrote it. His son had turned against him and set out to have him killed and take over his kingdom. David is on the run, hiding out wherever he can find safety. He's the most recognized and wanted man in the country. But in verse 5 he says - "I laid down and I slept. I woke up in safety. And I'm not scared." Kind of makes me ashamed of the nights when I've laid awake staring at the ceiling worried about something. Lord, you are the shield that surrounds me and everybody I know and love. What can people or circumstances do to me that You can't handle?
