I hear so many Christians these days repeating the words of Psalm 14:2-3 about our country. And I get that it feels like morality is headed the wrong way and things are getting worse. I know that at least in our country it seems like less and less people follow Jesus. But hasn't it kind of been like this for a really long time? Why is this news to anybody? We've read 15 of the Psalms now. Most days, David thinks the world is going to hell in a hand basket. So it was going on then. And why do most Christians immediately want to frame the problem in terms of going to battle and winning a war? We say "take America back for God." We even named it. We call it the "culture war." The big problem with that is when we posture our faith in a context of anger and opposition and fighting, we lose the very core of what Jesus said our faith was. You know. The whole "love God, love people" thing. He said that was the whole deal. I like David's response a lot better. . .I'll trust God. Let Him handle it. I'll keep loving. I'll keep rejoicing. I'll keep following. Read the 13th Psalm again. Not a bad approach if you ask me.
