Day 99

Psalm 38

One time somebody asked me why David is so dramatic and over the top when he writes the psalms. A couple of things you have to remember: These are song lyrics. Songs have a tendency to be a bit over dramatic. You also have to take into account that the way you emphasize something in Hebrew is to repeat it. So repetition isn't just there for dramatic effect. He's just trying to make his point clear. But at the same time, I read this psalm of sorrow over sin and I wonder if I don't need to lean in that direction a little more than I do. My tendency is to try and blow past my own sin and move on to the next thing and put it behind me. Maybe there's some value in sitting in the junk for a little while and feeling just how depraved we are sometimes.
